Scientific seminar “Foreign and Domestic Policy of Mongolia at the Present Stage”
On May 10th, a scientific seminar was held on the topic of “Foreign and Domestic Policy of Mongolia at the Present Stage”, which focused on analyzing the impact of great power rivalry in the region on Mongolia's domestic politics and diplomacy.
Buyantsogtoo Tsogtsaikhan, a Mongolian expert and former analyst of the Mongolian National Security Council, presented a report that examined Mongolia's history through the lens of geopolitics and offensive realism. While analyzing the historical background and the unique status of Mongolia as a "buffer state," the speaker emphasized the importance of maintaining a strategically neutral position and domestic solidarity for Mongolia's security.
The discussion was also attended by V. Kashin, Director of the Central Center for International Multilateral Cooperation and Integration of the National Research University Higher School of Economics, A. Korolev, Deputy Director of the Central Center for International Multilateral Cooperation of the National Research University Higher School of Economics, S. Mikhnevich, Managing Director of the International Multilateral Cooperation and Integration Department of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, as well as prominent Russian scientists and representatives of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences: V.Grayvoronovsky, A.Vorontsov, and E. Boikova. During the discussion, the experts highlighted the concept of the "buffer state" and discussed its applicability to the characterization of Mongolia's policy.
