Anastasia Pyatachkova on the new trends in China’s sanctions policy for the Valdai International Discussion Club (18 August 2020)

The website of the Valdai International Discussion Club published an article by a junior researcher and deputy head of the Asia-Pacific sector of CCEIS Anastasia Pyatachkova. The article "Chinese sanctions: now officially?" analyzes important changes that have occurred in China’s sanctions policy during the last few months.

In particular, the author:
- defines the general features of China’s sanctions policy and describes the key milestones in China’s practice of using sanctions as a foreign policy instrument;
- cites several trends in China's sanctions policy that have emerged over the past few months, and also defines international political prerequisites for their emergence;
- briefly assesses the "safety margin" of Sino-American relations, as well as limitations for the mutual sanctions policy.
