Approaches to an alternative international monetary system
About the Project
The project is being implemented by a working group consisting of faculty and students from the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs and researchers from the State University of Campinas, Brazil. The project aims to investigate new approaches to international settlements, including assessing the characteristics of a potential BRICS+ settlement unit and exploring opportunities to promote settlements in national currencies of the BRICS nations.
Project Objectives:
• Academic: to develop new approaches to international settlements between BRICS+ countries, including assessing the costs of the transition period, studying the feasibility of creating a common BRICS currency and a corresponding settlement platform, and analyzing measures to increase the liquidity of national currencies;
• Applied: To model the architecture of a platform for international settlements between BRICS countries, to develop a set of recommendations for the development of an alternative monetary system for BRICS countries, and to publish monitoring reports on macroeconomic and financial conditions in BRICS countries;
• Educational: To involve students and young researchers in research on the international payment system and BRICS studies, to conduct regular seminars, and to develop an educational course.
