About the Project
Brief description of the Project:
What are computer simulations in essence? Is it a tool for processing mathematical models? Is it a fundamentally new, previously unknown phenomenon that is changing all traditional views of mathematical modelling (perhaps, of knowledge itself)?
The Project is aimed at fundamental methodological research on computer simulations ontology through the analysis of practicing applied stages of development and using simulations in managing research and experimental technological activities practice.
Project goals:
- conceptual construction of a new epistemic picture of scientific knowledge based on the semantic and syntactic construct of computational technologies;
- development of general methodological applied management tools for the development of computer simulations for any scientific and experimental tasks;
- development the concept of digitalization research activities with the further optimization the management of the full cycle production of scientific and technical knowledge: theory - mathematical modeling - computer simulation - result (innovation, discovery, technology).
Originality of the Project:
- an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approach is used to achieve the set goals - engineers, mathematicians, programmers and philosophers are involved in joint work;
- extensive interaction with specialists from external academic research organizations - now employees of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Lomonosov Moscow State University and Skoltech are involved in the work;
- involvement in the project of commercial innovative companies whose main activities are related to scientific research - now the Russian business partner of the IBM - ANNA Systems is participating in the Project.
At all stages of the Project (engineering technology, modelling and programming), all the parts will be tied by philosophical reflexive work, which is functionally aimed at achieving the fundamental methodological goal of the Project. In already classical works of Immanuel Kant, Ernst Cassirer, Charles S. Pearce, and Ian Hacking, the epistemological and ontological issues of the relationship between reality, scientific knowledge and mathematical modelling were investigated. Using the existing scientific experimentation concepts - more broadly scientific knowledge - the project participants will derive the most relevant general methodology for developing computer simulations, which could be applied in the future in any scientific discipline, with the help of applying a practical instrumental method.
The Project will give special attention to restarting of the Kantian doctrine, which analyses the nature of objective knowledge about the world as well as the human contribution to its formation using extracted empirical data and theoretical concepts. The world to be explored and perceived is partly created in the process of knowledge production. Computer simulations will be able to instrumentally confirm this Kantian concept and reload it in the form of an applied methodology for a new computational epistemic picture of scientific knowledge.
Creation of a detailed management system at all simulation development stages and their further application in various scientific disciplines will be especially significant applied direction of the Project.
As a result of the Project, there will be a fundamentally significant new theoretical construct of scientific knowledge, and from an applied point of view, a general standardized methodology for managing the development and use of computational simulators for scientific research experimental activities will be obtained. The results will be used to prepare educational, scientific and methodological materials for professional managers and specialists, whose organizational and managerial activities are aimed at working with scientific and technological projects in innovative public and private companies.
